  • Description: The author analyzes statements from various parties concerning a disputed inheritance. The deceased had lived with his lover Masubilia for more than 16 years and provided for her on his death bed. His brother challenged her rights saying that she had married another man in 1220. In point of fact she had accepted that man’s proposal, but her lover would not allow her to leave. The judge in the inheritance dispute decided in Masubilia’s favor unconditionally. The appendix provides an edition of the surviving documentary evidence of the case in the original Latin. [Description supplied by Feminae.]
