Title:
Patronage Letter for Fogdo Abbey
Creator:
Description:
A letter sealed by Birger Jarl and his son, King Valdemar, promising to provide protection to the female monastic house at Fogdo. According to the document, the nuns of Fogdo did not have to pay general and royal property duties. The second-to-last sentence notes "dat (um) Stockholm", and this is the earliest surviving reference to the city of Stockholm.
