Title:
Reliquary Procession with St. Helena
Creator:
Description:
A relic "adventus" ceremony in which two men on a chariot carry a reliquary box toward a church that four workmen are still in the process of finishing. The chariot is preceded by four candle-bearers, the first of which is an emperor. The Empress Helena stands at the church entrance. She wears imperial garb and cradles the True Cross in her left arm. The figure of God the Father or Christ with a cruciform nimbus appears in the upper left corner.
