  • Description: "For the heroes of Troy, it turns out, romance time, associated with the love of women, the contract of marriage, and the establishment of heterosexual bonds, is not all that it's cracked up to be. The return to domesticity and the embrace of family is no great new beginning but only a return to death…Each text[the Roman d'Eneas and the Roman de Troie], moreover, proposes alternatives to romance time and the imperatives of heteronormativity, even if only to foreclose them. These alternatives take the form of queer characters, united in their belonging not to the world of marriage, procreation, and genealogy, with its emphasis on a time that continues from the past through the present and on into the future, but instead on a time characterized by asynchrony, excess, and death."
