Description: This object was once housed in the treasury of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. It depicts a haloed angel greeting two haloed women who have arrived at Christ's empty tomb to perform funerary anointing. The angel sits on a rock and gestures toward the tomb, which now contains only the cloth used to wrap Christ's body. The positioning of the head cloth and body cloth underscores the absence of the corpse that they once covered. Sleeping soldiers once were represented just below the tomb and have survived only partially.
