Title:
Hildegard of Bingen Records her Vision
Creator:
Description:
The fire of holy inspiration falls on Hildegard's head as she records her vision on a wax tablet. To the left the monk Volmar records the vision in a codex as a fellow nun, possibly Hildegard's friend and assistant Richardis, stands behind Hildegard with only one eye open. This image is a detail from a larger illumination that depicts Hildegard's vision of Caritas and illustrates Hildegard's text, Liber divinorum operum.
