  • Abstract: This analysis, which shows women's lot in the 14th century, their relationship with family and society, their working conditions and behavior towards justice, is based on the Catalonian civil trials of that time. The nucleus is the couple, the relations between husband and wife caught at the critical moment, from which action is taken. The action-writ can then be considered as the very expression, at its utmost, of that relationship between "generes" which emerges and is subjected to investigation by society. The aggressor woman and the husband's methods are revealed. Around this unstable couple, we can define the family unit to which the woman belongs, the family sympathies, the social context of town and neighborhood.
