  • Title: Women and the Word of God [The author briefly traces women's use of books from an eighth century Anglo-Saxon copy of the Pauline Epistles that has Ada's name inscribed to late medieval books of hours with illustrations of their female owners. At the same time Leyser reflects on affective piety and women's spirituality, particularly in connection with the book as metaphor for the Christian life as well as for the salvation offered by Christ.
