What war did not become: the video of the news broadcasts did not become threat to viewers. It was over there -- too far from the television sets to induce panic. Second, it did not become threat because the shooting was in the 'other' direction. Photographers take pictures of shooting and people being shot at. They do not take pictures of people shooting at them. When that happens they duck.
The experience for viewers was distant battles between unseen persons. The battles were moving away from the viewer rather than toward the viewer. The experience surely produced emotion, but it is unlikely to have been threat.
War in global news broadcasting does not produce heroes and it does not produce threat.
