Title:
Scenes from the Passion of Christ
Creator:
Memling, Hans, painter
Description:
Episodes from Christ’s Passion appear here, numbering 23 in the entire painting. This work allows the viewer to follow the Stations of the Cross from a single location. One of the donors, Maria Baroncelli, prays in the lower corner. Figures such as this were considered able to pray in the place of the donors themselves, and in perpetuity.
