Danielis was a widowed Byzantine noble woman and an extremely wealthy landowner. She became acquainted with the future emperor Basil I the Macedonian, and she offered him gifts and land that proved useful in his subsequent ascent to the imperial throne. She traveled to Constantinople with a large retinue, depicted here, in order to visit Basil after he became emperor.
