Title:
The clock in Filippino Lippi's Annunciation Tondo [Investigates the significance of Lippi's inclusion of a mechanical clock in his painting of the Annunciation in Gimignano through comparative analysis of contemporary works by Ghirlandaio and Botticelli. Issues of the cultural transition from feudal to merchant economy and domestic order are discussed, and the significance of the clock as a memento mori is disputed. Title note supplied by Feminae.]
