  • Abstract: Study of the legendary accounts of the fall of Orihuela in medieval chronicles referring to the muslim conquest of visigothic Spain: a favourable trety is obtained by Theodomir thanks to the women of the city who, dressing as warriors, made the Moors believe that the siege would be long and difficult. The mythological and ritual aspects of the tale are discussed from a comparative point of view. Greek, celtic, and lombard parallels are adduced, and the whole tradition is examined in its relations with modern peninsular folklore (oral and festive).
