  • Title: Feminist Chaucer? Some Implications for Teaching [The author briefly examines the approaches of Jill Mann ("Geoffrey Chaucer" (1991) in the "Feminist Readings" series) and Elaine Tuttle Hansen ("Chaucer and the Fictions of Gender" (1992)). He argues that Mann's approach is humanist, taking a positive view of Chaucer's representation of women. Hansen, the author feels, has a much more negative interpretation of Chaucer as a misogynist who feared feminization and struggled to establish his own identity unrelated to female characteristics.
