The Presentation of Marriage and Love in Chaucer's "Franklin's Tale" [Chaucer's depiction of the husband and wife this poem conveys the intimacy of a marital relationship in which the spouses are mutually bound to one another through love (rather than obedience). Nonetheless, the public wedding ceremony between the spouses in the poem demonstrates the importance of outwardly displaying the husband's "maistrie" or dominance in the marriage relationship.
