This study agrees with the identification proposed by Holmes and asserts that the author of the "Espurgatoire" is the same as the author of the "Lais" and "Fables." It shows also that the dedicatee of the "Fables" could well be William Marshal but that the dedicatee of the "Lais" would be the young king Henry rather than his father, Henry II.
