  • Description: Alice Redyng brought suit in court maintaining that she and John Boton, while alone together, had contracted marriage verbally and followed it by sexual intercourse. She brought two witnesses who had overheard their promises to each other. However, John questioned the reliability of the witnesses. He argued that William de Bridsall was a drunk, a beggar and a fool (stultus).
