Abstract:
The iconography of the apocalyptic Virgin is presented as one of the most versatile in terms of its meaning and symbolism, then, from a series of common attributes, extracted from a cosmological repertoire (stars, moon, rays of light, etc.) and according to the attitudes of the sacred characters, that is, the Virgin and her Son, Christ, who in turn can be ascribed to other medieval iconographic typologies (Hodegetria, Eleusa, etc.) images can be interpreted in one way or another. From different Andalusian Marian images, with attributes inherent to Mulier Amicta Sole, chosen for the extraordinary and unusual iconography in this geographical region, we develop the symbolic versatility of this iconography.
