Abstract:
This work studies the typology and iconographic variety of the characters in the mythological cycle of Cassiopeia, as represented in Medieval latin manuscripts. It takes as a starting point the direct study of Greek and Roman original sources, which inspired artists who translated those mythological concepts and ideas into concrete representations. As a result, it defines the iconographical elements of the five characters that form the cycle. In order to illustrate the work, there have been selected outstanding examples from four manuscripts, together with those included in Book V of ms. 3307 in National Library of Spain (9th century), known as Metz Codex.
