Title:
Crucifixion
Creator:
Masaccio, painter
Description:
One of the 11 surviving panels connected with the Pisa Altarpiece. The Virgin, on the left, and St. John the Evangelist on the right, flank the crucified Christ. Mary Magdalene, identified by her long, loose hair, throws herself at the foot of the cross. This painting was placed above the central panel of the altarpiece, which represented the Virgin enthroned with the Christ Child, flanked by two pairs of angels.
