Title:
Luttrell Family at Table
Creator:
Description:
Accompanying image for Psalm 114, a song of thanksgiving for deliverance from trouble. This folio and the one preceding it (fol. 207v) display bas-de-page scenes depicting the preparation and serving of a meal. A servant crosses over from the previous folio, delivering the food that was prepared there. Geoffrey Luttrell sits at the center surrounded by members of his household including his wife and daughter-in-law as well as two Dominican friars. There are several large silver vessels on the table and a cupbearer has just given Geoffrey a large silver cup from which he drinks. The Eucharistic overtones of the image become clear when considered in relation to another line from Psalm 114: "I will take the chalice of salvation…"
