Title:
God the Father with Sibyls and Prophets
Creator:
Perugino (Pietro Vanucci), painter
Description:
God the Father occupies a mandorla supported by angels. On the ground below him on the left are 6 Old Testament prophets: Isaiah, Moses, Daniel, David, Jeremiah and Solomon. To the right are the sibyls of Erythrae, Persia, Cumae, Libya, Tibur and Delphi. Each figure holds a scroll bearing a prophetic Christological text, some of which is apocryphal such as the text held by Solomon. This figure's passage comes from the Greek Pseudepigrapha which included the so-called "Odes of Solomon."
