Title:
St. Clotild Presents the Fleur-de-Lis to Clovis
Creator:
Bedford Master, miniaturist
Description:
In this rare version of the Clovis tale, also found in John Lydgate's Mumming at Windsor, God sends an angel to a hermit to give him a blue cloth bearing three fleur-de-lis. The hermit in turn gives the cloth to Clotild who is accompanied by her attendants. In the foreground, the cloth has been crafted into a shield which Clotild presents to Clovis.
