Title:
Adulterio, concubinato, bigamia: testimonianze dalla normative statutaria dello Stato pontificio (secoli XIII-XVI) [Beginning in the 13th century, Italian cities, including the papal states, passed laws regulating extra-marital sex. These presupposed that the sexual appetites of women needed to be regulated. They were more tolerant of the offenses of males, and they took into account the reputation of any woman involved in a case about sexual matters. An accusation of rape made by a woman was subject to particularly strict standards of proof. Title note supplied by Feminae.].
