Bible and Rule in the Clarissan Tradition [Clare and her sisters lobbied for papal approval of their rule. It can be understood as representing her own voice. The Rule quotes the gospels, while Clare's letters refer to the "Song of Songs" and other bridal images. Later Clares are found to be using both patterns of Biblical references.
