  • Title: Vision of the Soul of Guy de Thurno
  • Creator:
  • Description: "La Vision de l'ame de Guy de Thurno" is a French translation of a Latin text that discusses Church doctrine on purgatory. Guy de Thurno was a wealthy citizen of Verona who haunted his widow after death. She asks a local priest for help, and the priest and Guy's ghost debate the nature of the afterlife. Here the priest converses with Guy's spirit as four men and Guy's widow look on. The initials "CM" in the bas-de-page imagery and the motto "Bien en adviengne" indicate that this work belonged to Margaret of York, duchess of Burgundy. She commissioned this work as a companion piece to her copy of "Visions of the Knight Tondal."
