  • Abstract: The legend of Saint Agnes of Rome served as a paradigm for the spirituality of medieval religious women. It is not surprising, therefore, that one finds references to this Legend in the writings of medieval women. This study analyzes Clare of Assisi's use of the Agnes Legend in her letters to Agnes of Prague and suggests the ancient Roman office of St. Agnes as Clare's primary source for this Legend.
