Both CNN's WorldView and BBC's World News were quite explicit about their focus on a global audience. WorldView often began their news broadcast with "This is WorldView, seen live around the world." The selection of stories reflected their global orientation. Very few of their stories were about 'local' news -- news of the U.S. or Great Britain. By contrast the news presented by BBC 1 and other news broadcasts of CNN were as local in focus as these two were global. They were distinctively global in their selection of news.
We recorded WorldView broadcasts from 1998 through 2000, after which it was taken off the air. We recorded BBC's World News from 2000 through 2003. We have about 1,200 broadcasts and 12,000 stories to draw from in our research.
