Abstract:
In the "Champion des dames" (1440-1442), Martin Le Franc wrote in defense of his contemporary Joan of Arc. Six of these stanzas, long unknown because they had been excised from the original manuscript, deal with Jean Gerson's "little treatise" about the maid -- which is, in Le Franc's words, "much shrewder than we think."
