  • Abstract: This article endeavours to show that much of what has been considered ‘exceptional’ in Carolingian women's literary culture had in fact a much wider purview. An examination of key elements of a ninth-century codex illuminates the continuity between the manuscript's creators and intended audience, providing plausible evidence for female involvement in the production and utilization of intricate literary compilations and, thus, also for a more inclusive role for women in the Carolingian Renaissance.
