  • Abstract: The remains of a sparkling, gold-like substance on medieval rock crystal chess pieces at the Cathedral of Ourense and on the seal of Emessindis at the Cathedral of Girona are published here for the first time. It will be shown that analysis of these unexpected discoveries opens new avenues for investigating the ownership of cross-cultural objects in Iberia, especially by ruling women, during the central Middle Ages.
