  • Abstract: This article explores the life of this intriguing noblewoman, second wife of John Duke of Bedford and mother-in-law of Edward IV, from her early life until her death in 1472. Was she the greedy, arrogant woman portrayed by Richard III and surviving chronicles, or a victim of Warwick and Clarence's anti-Woodville propaganda campaign? What was her role in Edward IV's marriage? The article examines the surviving evidence to reach an understanding of Jacquetta's personality and motivations, and the historical events that shaped her life.
