  • Description: According to the Golden Legend, Margaret was a young girl in Antioch who was imprisoned for being a Christian. While in prison, she praid to God to let Satan appear to her. Satan materialized as a horrible dragon, which swallowed her. While inside the dragon, Margaret made the sign of the cross and the dragon’s belly split open. Here Margaret rises from the dragon’s body. Margaret was beheaded ultimately, but before dying she prayed that she be allowed to ensure the safe delivery of any pregnant woman who called on her. For this reason she is the patron saint of pregnant women.
