Title:
Comb with Courtship Scenes
Creator:
Description:
From left to right: a man and woman sit on a bench. The man carries a falcon on one hand, a symbol of sexual voraciousness. With his other hand he fondles the woman's face, another gesture of sexual dominance. The woman is accompanied by a lap dog, a symbol of fidelity. In the center scene the woman crowns the man (an action that carried erotic overtones) who kneels before her. In the final scene, the newly crowned man stands to embrace the woman.
