Title:
Entombment
Creator:
Description:
Christ's body is tightly wrapped in white linen. The brightness of his body draws the viewer's eye to the body and figures surrounding it, and thus enhances the viewer's affective experience. Three haloed figures kneel at the tomb: the Virgin tenderly holds her son's head and kisses his face while John the Evangelist rest his head in his hand in a gesture of sorrow. Joseph of Arimathea looks on mournfully. Behind these figures are Mary Magdalen, Mary the Mother of James, Mary of Salome and Nicodemus.
