The ram of Aries is surrounded by symbols of the three decans (a borrowing from Persian astrology) of this sign: a black man wearing a white girdle, which signifies boldness and fortitude; a woman dressed in red, which signifies nobleness and the extension of dominion; and a white man in a red garment who holds a golden bracelet and a wooden staff, signifying wit, meekness, joy and beauty.
