Title:
Bardic Poems of Consolation to Bereaved Irish Ladies
Source:
Medieval Italy, Medieval and Early Modern Women: Essays in Honour of Christine Meek. Edited by Conor Kostick. Four Courts Press, 2010. Pages 220 - 230.
Description:
The author briefly analyzes a small group of bardic poems addressed to women as survivors grieving for their husbands or other close male relatives. The author sees thematic consistency in the acceptance of God’s will and the respect due the poet’s words. Simms cites changes as well over time, particularly in women’s status and economic power to provide patronage for poets. [Description supplied by Feminae.]
