  • Abstract: Small containers known as panagiaria, designed to hold a particle of bread, or panagia, elevated in honor of the Virgin in a paraliturgical rite, have never been the subject of a comprehensive study. The aim of the present paper is to address this lacuna by offering some new insights into the patronage and ritual use of these objects.
