Hoccleve's Attitude Towards Women "I Shoop Me Do my Peyne and Diligence To Wynne Her Loue by Obedience" [The author argues that Hoccleve has a more open and nuanced view of women than many of his contemporaries. The vivid references to his own married life and his sympathy for widows counterbalances to some degree his story about the deceitfulness of women in "The Tale of Jonathas."
