Title:
Frontispiece to Genesis: Creation and Fall of Humanity
Creator:
Description:
Top register: God (here identified as Christ) creates Adam as angels in an orant pose look on, and he then removes one of Adam's ribs to create Eve. Second register: Adam names Eve, and God forbids the couple to eat from the tree; Third register: Eve eats from the tree as the serpent looks on (the serpent is pink and has a cock's comb). Eve shares the fruit with Adam. God discovers that the couple has clothed themselves with fig leaves. Adam points to Eve. She in turn assigns blame to the serpent, which God has transformed into a "creeping thing." Fourth register: an angel ejects Adam and Eve, wearing tunics, from the garden. Forced to live by their labor, Adam tills the land as Eve nurses Cain.
