Title:
Steam Baths
Creator:
Description:
A number of nude men and women are visible through the open windows of this heated public bath house. A nude woman holds a towel to her body as she enters the building from a wooden staircase. The steam is supplied to the house by an external furnace. This image comes from the original manuscript of Konrad Kyeser's Bellifortis [Strong in War], a military treatise that includes other non-warfare-related technological instruction and also addresses natural magic.
