  • Title: Jaufre Rudel and the Countess of Tripoli
  • Creator:
  • Description: Jaufre Rudel, a troubador known for his distant loves, supposedly fell in love with the countess of Tripoli just by hearing word of her goodness. Unable to be away from her any longer, Jaufre goes on crusade to Antioch as a pretext for visiting the countess. He becomes gravely ill during his travel and the countess hears of him. Depicted here is the moment that the countess takes Jaufre in her arms and he miraculously recovers long enough to look at her, at which point he dies in her embrace.
