Title:
Foire [Fair] Scene
Creator:
Master of the Cité des Dames, miniaturist
Description:
The foire [fair] assembled annually and attracted merchants internationally. Here the cityscape is greatly reduced to almost diorama size so that we might have a better glimpse of the activity occurring within it. In the background merchants sell wool at tables while another sells woven baskets. Others have pigs and cows for sale. A female merchant sits by a cross marker with her basket of chickens. A well-to-do couple has just entered the scene.
