Poroi Submissions
Poroi encourages single submissions as well as proposals for
special symposia or issues catalyzed by guest editors. Poroi issues
appear several times a year in electronic configurations suited
to the substance of each work published. All issues can be accessed
through the journal’s site (http://inpress.lib.uiowa.edu/poroi/)
and the POROI site (http://www.uiowa.edu/~poroi/). The
journal announces publication of each new issue to extensive
rosters of subscribers,
and it reminds them periodically of earlier issues.
Contributors submit completed works (or proposals for special symposia
and issues) in electronic form to the Poroi Editor, who uses
anonymized electronic versions to seek the advice of peer reviewers
on each prospective publication. The Editor shares the reviews
with authors. To submit a work, simply attach it as an electronic
file, preferably in MS Word, to an email for the Poroi Editor
at john-nelson@uiowa.edu or poroi@uiowa.edu.
Poroi welcomes the submission of scholarly articles that feature
rhetorical analysis or invention. It also solicits contributions
of occasional features. As explained elsewhere in this Website,
the journal’s features include film takes, multimedia inquiries,
myth scapes, strategy studies, word tours, and rhetorical inventions. The
journal is open to proposals and submissions for other kinds of occasional
features as well. Scholars interested in working with the journal’s
Editor to create symposia of several articles or whole issues on special
themes should share their ideas as early as possible when planning
related panels or conferences.
There are no lower or upper bounds of length for pieces that merit
publication. Instead the standards are excellence in communication
for contributions of keen interest to the journal’s multidisciplinary
audience. Contributors should keep in mind that short and sweet
suits online publication especially well. Poroi is open
to experiments in style and form. It seeks to sculpt scholarship
to take advantage of possibilities in electronic media. It strives
to publish plausible, well-turned works with significance for rhetorical
inquiry.
Authors release their works for publication in Poroi. But
authors retain the copyrights for other uses of their works. The
journal asks only that authors acknowledge in subsequent works the
publication of earlier versions in Poroi.
Assisting the Editor in the assessment of submissions are Associate
Editors, who also provide advice on Poroi policies, and an international
Editorial Board of distinguished scholars to augment the staff’s
areas of expertise. The Managing Editor works with the University
of Iowa Libraries to facilitate the publication of each issue. The
Assistant Editor coordinates work by reviewers as they evaluate and
authors as they refine submissions. Guest Editors work with the
Editor and Associate Editors to prepare special, topical issues as
though these scholars were editing collections for a scholarly press.
