The media would have loved to have heroes -- heroes sell. But WorldView tried it with two pilots who had flown the first mission over Yugoslavia. The pilots were obviously uncomfortable. They could answer no questions because all information was classified. WorldView did not try it again.

The U.S. Defense Department would have loved to have heroes. They tried twice. First, with Jessica Lynch who, it turned out, was rescued from the doctors who were treating her wounds. And it became difficult to maintain the aura of heroism. Then they tried it with Pat Tillman. A football player who gave up his millions of dollars contract to join the special forces and who was killed by 'friendly fire;' the euphemism used for killed mistakenly by his own platoon. Killed by friendly fire is not what the Defense Department wants to advertise. So they stopped.
