Abstract:
Old English euphemisms for sexual intercourse are difficult to locate because many of them are euphemistically defined in the major dictionaries. It is usually impossible to determine whether an individual Old English usage is still euphemistically active, but words and phrases which are etymologically euphemistic can be identified. Patterns of sexual euphemism overlap with Modern English usage, and examples can be found in most types of Old English literature, including 'literary texts'.
