  • Description: Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos stands with his wife Helen Dragas and their three children beneath the Virgin and Child, Manuel on the Virgin's right and Helen on the left. While the Virgin actually touches Manuel's halo with her right hand, her left hand stops short of touching Helen. This manuscript contains works traditionally attributed to Dionysius the Areopagite and was given as a gift to the abbey of St.-Denis from Manuel II following his trip to Paris and London to raise military support to protect Constantinople from the Turks.
