  • Title: Julian of Norwich and the Anchoritic Literature [The author examines the possiblity that Julian of Norwich might have been influenced by "De inclusarum institutione," the "Ancrene Wisse," Rolle's "Form of Living," and Hilton's "Scale of Perfection." The evidence is not conclusive in any of the cases. However, it is clear that Julian was familiar with the tenets of medieval spirituality as reflected in devotional and anchoritic texts of the time.
