Title:
Female Rabbi in Fourteenth Century Zaragoza? [The author provides a short note regarding the mention of a "rabess" named Ceti in a letter issued by the Infant Alfonso in 1325. Evidently a Jewish man was contesting for her position at the synagogue, and she sought the support of the prince. Nirenberg suggests that her position was something like a sexton, being in charge of the women's section of the synagogue and possibly the "mikveh." The article concludes with the latin text of the letter. Title note supplied by Feminae.].
