Abstract:
This essay puts together two concepts that are complementary: iconography and iconology. It aims to go further the evolution of the iconography of the Sybil. Beginning with its anthropological context, it is expected to understand its iconological sense and also its semiotic values. In order to achieve this task, one formal, technical and chronological analysis of the works of art will be made. The selection of these works of art has been made according to its iconographical relevancy, taking into account those one made in conjuncture years of change from the Antiquity to the Early Renaissance, and paying attention to those one whose meanings were assimilated in the Modern Age.
